As you all know by now Logan Christopher
Schmitz was born on November 19, 2007 at 11:36 am. He weighed 8 lbs 6.3 oz and was 20 1/2 inches long.
I started having labor pains early Thursday morning but they were really light and far apart so I went to my scheduled doctor appointment and I was still only dilated 1 cm and 80% effaced so she sent me on my way and told me to walk a lot or have sex to try and get things going...I kid you not those were the doctor's orders. So, I went to the Galleria Mall and walked around, oh and I bought a Coach purse too, I couldn't go home empty handed. Anyway, that night Joel and I tried the other half of her recommendation to speed things along so we thought we would have Logan by Friday or Saturday. Over the weekend the pains got a little stronger each day but they were still only 8 - 10 min apart so we waited it out. Finally, at about 10:00 pm on Sunday I couldn't take it anymore so we went to the hospital. I hadn't slept much in 4 days so I was pretty tired but excited.
Once we got to the hospital I was dilated 2 cm and 100% effaced and they told me once I reached 3 cm I could have an epidural WOO HOO! I was there maybe an hour before they were putting in the epidural IV line and I was feeling no pain. Joel, my mom, and my dad were all in the room with me and everyone basically slept the whole time, myself included. Since the epidural slowed down my contractions they gave me Patocin to speed things along and around 7:00 am or so Dr. Webster came and broke my water and I got really nauseous and started throwing up so they gave me something for that and it knocked me out. The next thing I remember I woke up with an oxygen mask on and they were telling me it was time to push. I pushed for about 30 min and Logan was crying and it was the most beautiful sound I think I have ever heard. Joel was so wonderful he kept telling me I was doing a great job and when he came out he was telling me how he looked and how he was doing. I was pretty out of it but I do remember the nurses placing him in my arms for the first time and I just cried he was so wonderful and I couldn't believe he was finally here. He started nursing right away he didn't waste any time.
Like I said I was pretty out of it but I think Traci was the first one to come into the room to see us followed by Amber and the rest of the family. I remember hearing a lot of voices but I was so tired I kept falling asleep. Joel said everyone left and they took Logan to the nursery and they moved me to my recovery room.
We got to go home on Wednesday before Thanksgiving so that was nice to be home for the holiday. He did really well in the hospital his blood sugar dropped a few times while we were there but they just gave him a supplement and he was fine. Here are a couple of pictures that were taken:

Thank you to everyone that came and visited and brought such wonderful gifts we really appreciated it.
Logan is 2 weeks old today and we are going to see his pediatrician for his 2 week check up and he is going to be getting his first round of vaccines so he won't be a very happy baby today. He has been a pretty good baby so far he loves to be held and rocked to sleep but does not like to be burped or have his clothes changed. This past Saturday we drove to my dad's house which is 3 hours each way and he didn't do very well, I guess the trip was just a little too long for him. We had to stop several times to feed and change him so it made for a very long drive. On short car rides he does really well. I am really enjoying the time I get to spend with him before I have to go back to work in 7 weeks. He is getting better about sleeping at night so I get more done during the day.
We would love to have visitors so if anyone would like to stop by just give us a call to make sure we know you're coming.
